Invisible Inheritance

How Inherited Emotional Patterns Shape Identity, Leadership, and Relationships


Most high-functioning adults don’t lack insight.
What they may not recognize is how inherited emotional patterns — established early in life — continue to shape how they respond to stress, authority, intimacy, and identity.


In Invisible Inheritance, I explore how emotional patterns form early in life, how they move across generations, and how they quietly organize adult behaviour. The book examines how these patterns are transmitted within families and how they continue to shape identity, relationships, and leadership long after childhood.


Through the Rewriting the Inheritance™ framework, I translate those insights into practical application — helping individuals and organizations recognize and interrupt patterns rather than unconsciously repeat them.


My talks are reflective, grounded, and psychologically precise.
Rather than motivational speeches, they offer audiences language, insight, and practical frameworks for conscious change.


About Tommi Hanley


Tommi Hanley is the creator of the Rewriting the Inheritance™ framework and author of the forthcoming memoir, Invisible Inheritance. Her work integrates recovery principles, attachment theory, and nervous system awareness to illuminate how inherited emotional patterns shape adult behaviour. She speaks and teaches internationally, offering psychologically grounded insight into generational transmission, identity reconstruction, and conscious leadership.


She also works directly with individuals and groups through coaching, workshops, and retreats at Cedarvale Wellbeing in Port Elgin, Ontario.

Letting go and acceptance go hand-in-hand. We  have to accept a person or circumstance exactly as it is, before we can let it go.


Eckhart Tolle believes we create and maintain problems because they give us a sense of identity. Perhaps this explains why we often hold onto our pain far beyond its ability to serve us.


In this workshop you will learn why you replay past mistakes or wrongdoings over and over again in our head, allowing feelings of shame and regret to shape our actions in the present. You'll learn how to let go of  frustrations of the past and worries about the future.


 When you hold stress in your minds and body, it creates serious health issues. You are getting addicted to your emotions and the stress hormones that are released when you're worried, angry or scared, so you  keep repeating the same scenarios over and over again to get those hits of adrenaline and cortisol in the blood stream.


Whatever the reasons, learning how to let go is a practice that allows  you to move on and open yourself to new possibilities, lessons, and the willingness to forgive and heal.
